Los Amates
On October 10, 1980, in the place known as Los Amates, Israel Menjívar, his wife, daughter and daughter-in-law were murdered. The event is narrated by Rigoberto Quintanilla, and his wife, María Celia Menjívar, the only daughter who managed to survive.
“They took him and brought him here. They tortured him. They clubbed him with some freshly cut sticks that were laying on the ground. His arms, all the way down here, were almost broken by the clubbing. Then they shot him twice with 9 mm bullets. They also cut him here with a knife. They almost cut his head off his neck. After that, they headed in that direction to carry out another barbaric act, to kill the three women: his wife, his 18-year-old daughter and his daughter-in-law.”
